Print is Making a Comeback

We’ve heard people say that Print is making a comeback. We say it never left and has always been strong.
While driving to work today did you see that Billboard advertisement - PRINT. When at the grocery market did you read the label on a box of food – PRINT. Did your Cabernet or Chardonnay have a label on the bottle – PRINT. Print is here to stay. Although we may be more conscientious these days regarding recycling and perhaps not printing out every email we receive, print is still around us everyday and is a big part of our lives.  Don’t think print can’t be done eco-friendly. We have many ways to print “Green” that don’t harm our environment. Here are a few.

First, we can use seed paper for special projects. These papers are from natural, biodegradable and recycled fibers, seeds and plant material directly from nature, without cutting down trees in the process.

A second solution is called “Tree-Free”. Unlike traditional paper, “Tree Free” is manufactured without the use of trees, water or toxic agents such as bleaching chemicals. It is made entirely from inorganic mineral powders derived from stone, a trace amount of non-toxic resin and high density polyethylene. “Tree Free” is naturally resistant to scuffing, water, grease and oily substances making it ideal for outdoor applications. 

Combined with “Tree Free” we have printed water-resistant business cards with ink formulated with 30% or more vegetable oil that does not contain any petroleum-derived ink solvents. The ink contains a minimum of 55% bio-derived, renewable and sustainable raw materials.

One thing Kenny the Printer understands is there is more to ”Environmentally Friendly” than paper and printing as well as a balance between the environment and value and the environment and services. There is also a responsibility between business and the communities they are a part of. We do our best here at Kenny the Printer to be as environmentally friendly as possible as well as helping  business with “green” solutions to their printing and promotional needs.

Employee Appreciation

I’m often asked by customers and friends if I have any ideas for ways to show appreciation to employees and customers. Although there are many ways to show your appreciation, it’s really dependant on the size of your company, budget and how much time you want to put into your creativity.

There are lots of ways to keep an employee happy and the easiest of ways is to simply tell them how much they are appreciated and what a great job they are doing. Sometimes it’s the small things we have to remember to do that go a long ways. However, if you need to do more for your staff, here are a few ideas. 

*At Kenny the Printer, every summer we like to have an “Ice Cream Social” every Friday afternoon. The employees gather around the break room and we serve some sort of ice cream treat (Root Beer Floats, Ice Cream Sandwiches, Popsicles, Cupcakes, Sundaes, etc). This is a relatively inexpensive way to Thank our employees for a great week of hard work and it goes over very well.

*Company Picnic (For employees or  employee and their families)

 *BBQ Lunch in the Parking Lot – Get out their and roast some hot dogs & hamburgers – other things to do instead of BBQ is to see if you can get a Food Truck such as In n Out or The Lime Truck, Seabirds, etc. There are a lot of Fantastic Food Trucks on the road. Just pull up Facebook, Twitter or Google and they will list all the great trucks in your area. Another  simple idea is bringing in Pizza for the gang once a month. Trust me, people love food!!!

*Do giveaways each month: i.e. Movie Tickets, Starbucks gift card, Car Wash or Detail, Tickets to a sporting event, Restaurant gift card or even cash……….you get the idea! These don’t have to be big ticket expenses, just something like $5, $10, $15 sort of thing.

*Happy Hour at your local favorite Restaurant/Bar. No, this doesn’t mean lets all go get hammered, just a drink or two (it can even mean a soda or ice tea) and some appetizers. Near us we have some favorite local happy hours – El Torito, Gulliver’s, Claim Jumper to name a few.

*Beach Party; Bowling Party; Etc

*Of course a special drawing where the winner gets a paid day off is always a nice perk.

Here we are in July, the 2nd half of the year. Time is just flying by way too fast. We know how easy it is to let things slide or put off for a later date. Founded during the playing days of the Angels’ King Fish Tim Salmon, the Foundation supports children’s charities, as well as select faith-based organizations in SoCal, AZ & Europe.
